An Electric Multiple Unit or EMU is a multiple unit train consisting of self-propelled carriages. This typology of vehicles doesn’t require a separate locomotive as electric traction motors are incorporated within a number of the carriages. They are mostly used for passengere trains ad are popular on commuter and suburban rail networks having the characteristics of fast acceleration and pollution-free operations.
- The main features of the resistors for EMU are:
- High capacity of overload
- High insulation level
- Natural or forced air cooled
- Installations under frame or on the roof
- Low noise
- Low weight
- Safety heating shields for the external parts
- Easy maintenance
- Pollution-free
